We can transcribe text from many sources, including:


  • Please find set out below our charges for producing brailled documents from various sources. They are based on an average A4 page of about 350 words. We have separated the cost of transcription and embossing as a document only requires transcription once and extra copies can be provided for the cost of embossing only. The transcription charge includes the first braille copy.

  • Text sent by email, either as plain text or wordprocessor files, costs £1.00 per A4 page. We can accomodate the usual Word or Acrobat (PDF) files, as well as Exel and Powerpoint as text (Powerpoint graphics have to be printed and scanned).   • If we receive documents as word-processor files on computer disc, the basic cost is £1.00 per A4 page. File formats are as for email, above.
  • If the documents are good quality type or print, they can be scanned into the computer and the cost is £1.50 per A4 page.
  • Handwritten, fax, audio tape and poor quality print documents require re-typing and the cost is £2.00 per A4 page. 

  • If the text requires a lot of editing before brailling, ie tables of text or figure work, then the charge is slightly higher, depending upon the amount of time taken. A braille page has only 30 characters per line and columns, indenting and tabs have to be dealt with manually. Tables with headings normally have to be rewritten.
  • Most text is straightforward and requires little editing, but we are always happy to provide estimates before proceeding.
  • We normally emboss double sided, as it considerably reduces the size of the finished document, but we will emboss single sided if you wish. There is a small extra charge for single sided embossing as it uses more paper.
  • Extra copies may be obtained at any time for the cost of embossing only as we store the brailled documents on computer. This also reduces the cost of updating documents in the future. The first copy is included in the price of the transcription

  • The charge for embossing extra copies is 7 pence per braille page, double sided. (There are approximately 2.5 braille pages per A4 print page)
  • Documents are either stapled, or held together with treasury tags as standard (depending on the number of pages), but we do offer comb binding facilities if required for 50 pence per volume. (Up to about 80 pages per volume)
  • We are normally able to offer a same day service for documents up to twenty pages and we are always happy to despatch finished documents directly to your clients to save time.
